Eoin, age 8 – Attention and Concentration difficulties

“… we went for an initial consultation and a lot of what they were saying made sense so we decided to try the Cluas program…People close to him cannot believe the change…. I would highly recommend Cluas to anyone who can relate to our story …”

“… People close to him cannot believe the change…. I would highly recommend Cluas to anyone who can relate to our story …”

Before entering the Cluas program our son Eoin could not concentrate for more than a minute. This affected his school and family life, he was falling behind in school even though he was intelligent. Homework was 2 hours long with constant fights.

We could not trust him alone with his 4 year old sister as he was aggressive towards her. His behaviour was at times embarrassing and often led to us leaving a restaurant or wherever it was we were. ADHD, Aspergers and other conditions were mentioned, but not diagnosed.

We were recommended to Cluas by our son’s teacher. After an initial consultation a lot of what they were saying made sense and so we put our trust in Cluas. We organised Eoin to finish school early to incentivise him to do the Cluas Program. Some days were hard but with guidance from Cluas we made most sessions fun.

Today Eoin is 9 and every other day he comes home from school with a star for working hard or being the best at something. Homework is now 30-40 minutes, and his sister loves playing with him now. The people close to him cannot believe his personality change.

I would highly recommend Cluas to anyone who can relate to our story.

Sophie, age 5 – Speech & Language Difficulties

… Since starting on the Cluas Program Sophie’s personality has really progressed, she has much more confidence and often takes the lead in play situation …Her whole world has broadened and she wants to know everything about everything…”

Our main concerns about Sophie were in relation to her pronunciation of words. Sophie only pronounces about 10-15% of her words with 100% accuracy.

This lead to her withdrawing from social situations where she was verbally challenged. Sophie was often left out or overlooked by her siblings and cousins.

Since starting on the Cluas Program Sophie’s personality has really progressed, she has much more confidence and often takes the lead in play situation rather than just following along. Her whole world has broadened and she wants to know everything about everything.

Before this Sophie just took a back seat while life passed her by, now she’s in the driver’s seat.

Valerie, age 13 – Auditory Processing Difficulties

“… She told me one day that she felt she had difficulty hearing. I knew her hearing itself was fine so suspected it was a processing issue …We are now finished with the program and we are looking at big differences…”

Prior to the Cluas program, my daughter would not have had obvious hearing or processing difficulties. But she did say very often, “Wait. What?” Also, she had some behaviours which could be considered badgering or impatient, even a little hyper.

She told me one day that she felt she had difficulty hearing. I knew her hearing itself was fine so suspected it was a processing issue. A Cluas evaluation confirmed this to be accurate and we commenced the program.

What a difference! After the first period of the program I noticed the impatience had diminished. After the second segment it was gone altogether. Soon the whole family noticed that Valerie was no longer hyper.

We are now finished with the program and we are looking at big differences. I would say my daughter is happier, more relaxed and the ‘”Wait. What?”‘ moments have all but disappeared. Her concentration has improved and she is a visibly more confident student.

I am so grateful for this positive, non-drug, life changing treatment.

  • Ciaran, age 17 – Attention Difficulties

Ciaran, age 17 – Attention Difficulties

“… he is much more focused, better organised and more easily able to concentrate both in class and at home. He has matured significantly and we are sure that the Cluas program has contributed …”

Ciaran and his parents came to Cluas in Dublin in November 2012 for an Assessment and within a few weeks Ciaran started a Cluas @ Home program.

We embarked on the Cluas program in an effort to help Ciaran settle better into the classroom environment in preparation for his Leaving Certificate. Since he started in 5th year we have found that he is much more focused, better organised and more easily able to concentrate both in class and at home.  He has matured significantly and we are sure that the Cluas program has contributed, coinciding with his Transition Year experience and his own personal development.

“… Concentrating better in class and her general confidence levels have increased … Enjoying school more generally…”

    • Feed back from teacher is that she is concentrating better in class now.
    • Her general confidence levels have increased both in school and outside.
    • She has more interest in school generally and is enjoying it more.

Frank, age 11 – Attention Difficulties & Behaviour problems

“…His behaviour and attention has improved greatly … he is a lot happier in school and is becoming more confident … His relationship with his siblings is better and he also communicates more with myself and his father. “

Initially Frank attended Cluas regarding his behaviour and attention span. He lacked concentration in all areas, was not able to follow instructions and suffered from aggression.

He has improved greatly in all of the above, with the exception of the odd outburst. His relationship with his siblings is better and he also communicates more with myself and his father.

He has started to mature a little and seems to ask lots of questions. He is a lot happier in school and is becoming more confident.

The most difficult time was probably the few days after each stage was completed.

“… Since the Cluas program, my son has changed in his ability to communicate, listen and interact with his peers and adults. This has greatly reduced his stress levels and melt downs… He even goes on play-dates now!“

Since the Cluas program, my son has changed in his ability to communicate, listen and interact with his peers and adults. This has greatly reduced his stress levels – which was the main reason for doing the Cluas program.

His time in school has gone from a stressful one with “melt downs”, toiletry issues, lack of friends and “zoning out” to one where he now has friends, can interact in class and has lost the stress that showed before. He doesn’t walk on his toes as much, he willingly approaches visiting adults to talk. He has stopped bed wetting totally which use to occur during term time, another example of his stresses at school. He even goes on play-dates now!

The most difficult time of the program was the start as we had to try and incorporate it into our busy day and to find things to do that were of interest. Once we got into a routine, it was easier.

  • Jack, age 6 – Auditory & Sensory Processing Difficulties

Jack, age 6 – Auditory & Sensory Processing Difficulties

“…Our concern was his listening skills and sensitivity to noises…I came across a condition called auditory processing disorder which can be caused by severe ear infections .. We started the Cluas program and the changes in Jack have been hugely positive…”

Our concern about Jack was his listening skills. I noticed that he just didn’t seem to follow commands and even when I spoke to him face to face it didn’t seem to register. School had noticed an issue with his listening skills also but found that once something was fully explained to him he could do it.

Jack was also afraid of loud noises, like hand dryers in toilets and the lawnmower: he used to say his ears hurt and he had mentioned that school was very noisy and he couldn’t hear the teacher.

So I did my own research and came across a condition called auditory processing disorder which can be caused by severe ear infections which Jack had as a baby. So we decided to give Cluas a call and make an appointment, which was the best call we ever made.

The changes in Jack have been huge, from the teachers at school noticing his listening skills are much better, engaging with his peers and forming friendships – asking his friends to come back for playdates without telling me sometimes! and most wonderful of all was the change at home – seeing his sense of humour developing, interacting and taking charge in games, more self esteem and much more confident in himself, he’s not as tired and has more zest for life.

I found the most difficult time during the program was keeping him on track towards the end. It was getting harder and harder to get him to engage but by and large the changes in Jack far out weighted a few tears because he didn’t want to do his magic music!!

Paul, age 6 – Attention Difficulties & Auditory Processing Difficulties

“…My son had difficulties with listening and attention and since we started the Cluas programme the changes in his behaviour have been positive. He understands what is being explained to him and he can explain his feelings much better now …”

Since beginning the Cluas program, I have noticed a significant change in my son’s behaviour. Before, when he would not get his own way, he would throw a prolonged tantrum. Also, the home was quite tense, wondering what would trigger the next shouting event.

Now, my son is listening well, understanding what is being explained to him, and is also making great progress with many other aspects of his development – including in class at school, interacting with his peers, understanding better how he feels the way he feels sometimes.

  • Donal, age 17 – Attention Difficulties, concentration and related school difficulties.

Donal, age 17 – Attention Difficulties, concentration and related school difficulties.

“…The care, support and attention we as a family received was fantastic…Throughout the program things have gone from strength to strength for Donal, school life has completely changed for the good, his confidence has grown and overall he is much more content…”

Prior to starting the Cluas program, Donal was extremely frustrated, almost agitated, in school as he had plenty ability but was not able to apply it and it was a struggle for all of us as a family seeing him so unhappy. His concentration in class was poor thus leading to him having difficulties with teachers. Home/family life was fine.

The Cluas program was suggested to us by a friend and we have not looked back. Within a couple of weeks Donal was much happier and started to settle in school. Most of the teachers were on board but we had to fight his corner as they knew very little about the Claus program. Throughout the program things have gone from strength to strength for Donal, school life has completely changed for the good, his confidence has grown and overall he is much more content.

The care, support and attention we as a family received was fantastic. We are at the end of the program and we are aware that the support if needed will always be there for us. Wonderful program with wonderful people, so glad we found it for Donal. Many thanks.
