How can we help?

How do parents arrange for their child to attend at Cluas?

Parents can simply phone or email or complete the enquiry form below to learn more about the Cluas Programme and speak with one of our team, so we can learn more about your child. Then, if you are happy to do so, we can arrange an assessment at Cluas for your child.

As a first main step Cluas carry out an individual assessment specifically with a view to establishing whether a programme at Cluas would be of benefit to a child. Normally an assessment can be organized to take place within a few weeks.

Assessment at Cluas

After contacting Cluas you will be given an appointment for an assessment. At this appointment we will assess your child’s Auditory Processing, listening, developmental profile and discuss personal history. After this, we will show you and your child where the programme will take place and introduce you to the Cluas staff.

Using the information gathered at the initial assessment, an individualzed Cluas programme is designed for your child. Following the assessment, should a programme then be recommended and agreed with you, a programme would generally take place in the three stages over a period of approximately four months at our Centres at Tallaght, Dublin or Victoria Cross, Cork.

When his programme starts, he will listen to music and voice recordings through headphones. The properties of these recordings are being constantly modified by specialized sound equipment, which has been programmed according to the personal programme that has been designed for your child.

During his programme he will be in a small group setting, guided by a Listening Therapist. The Listening Therapist will organise different activities, including sensory, social and active audio-vocal exercises. These exercises are designed to help your child develop and give him the desire and ability to communicate effectively.

A standard programme at Cluas consists of three phases:

  • The first stage is 15 days – for 2 hours each week-day (over 3 consecutive weeks)
  • followed by an interval of 4 weeks (with no attendance at Cluas)
  • The second stage is 8 days – for 2 hours each week-day (over 2 consecutive weeks)
  • followed by an interval of 4 weeks (with no attendance at Cluas)

  • The third stage is 8 days – for 2 hours each week-day (over 2 consecutive weeks)

Your child’s progress and development will be constantly monitored and formally re-assessed at the beginning and end of each stage, the results of which will be discussed with you.

At the final meeting, recommendations for follow-up and further treatment will be made where appropriate. While 3 stages of Cluas Listening Therapy may be enough for some children, experience has taught us that other children benefit from further stages of therapy.
