Our Centre Based Approach
We provide centre based listening programmes to people with a wide range of difficulties, such as attention and concentration difficulties read or write difficulties, study difficulties and also social difficulties.
Our centre based approach means that while people come to Cluas to receive their individual programme, they will either be in a small group setting or have an adult room to themselves. During their daily sessions, the programme will be organized and set up by our Listening Therapists, however generally adults spend most of the time on their own.
During the programme people arrive at Cluas and either join their group in our adult room or have a room to themselves. While the person is wearing the headphones (through which they receive their programme) they can engaged in constructive activities. They are able to talk to and interact with one another and the Listening Therapists and also move around, depending on the activity.
Attending our centre allows our staff to assist you in doing your active microphone work – active microphone sessions are very important in improving your auditory processing abilities, your listening skills and your self expression.
It allows our staff to support you in your development, and encourages positive interaction between our clients, forming the basis for positive successful relationships once the programme has been completed.
Monitoring and ‘fine tuning’ each person’s programme
The daily centre based nature of the programme means that we are able to follow each person’s progress very closely and allows us to alter the programme as the programme progresses. This close monitoring and the ability to alter their programme as the person develops, allows us to capitalise on each step forward that the person take. The close monitoring and the constant tailoring of each individual programme is a significant part of the reasons why we get the results that we do.
We complete frequent Listening Tests in order to track progress. Our observations, results from testing and assessments are shared with the person at regular intervals. Consultations occur at the beginning and end of each stage. Senior Cluas staff are also available to answer any questions or address and concerns you may have while a person is going through the programme.
A standard programme at Cluas consists of three phases:
- The first stage is 15 days – for 2 hours each week-day (over 3 consecutive weeks)
- followed by an interval of 4 weeks (with no attendance at Cluas)
- The second stage is 8 days – for 2 hours each week-day (over 2 consecutive weeks)
- followed by an interval of 4 weeks (with no attendance at Cluas)
- The third stage is 8 days – for 2 hours each week-day (over 2 consecutive weeks)
A Day at Cluas
A Cluas day is organized into a number of sessions each day, with people attending one session per day; these sessions are from: 8:00-10:00am, 10:30am-12:30pm and 2:00-4:00pm. The Cluas centre is open throughout the year, with programmes commencing every three weeks.
We also regularly have adult only programmes, which take place from 4:45-6:45pm. Contact us for details of the next programme.
Monitoring of progress and reviews
Your progress will be constantly monitored and formally re-assessed at the beginning and end of each stage, the results of which will be discussed during a consultation meeting with you.
At the consultation meeting at the end of stage 3, recommendations for follow-up and possible further stages will be made, where appropriate. While 3 stages of Cluas Programme will be enough for most people, experience has taught us that some others do benefit from a number of further 8-day stages of the programme.
